On start up when your Jaguar is pulling maximum amps , electrical current always finds an easy path to ground, and that would be through the drivetrain, and that makes the pinion bearing a sitting duck. All that has to happen is the bearing to arch a little, putting a mark on the bearing race and the rest is jaguar history.

After a rebuild or installation it is recommend you install a heavy ground cable from the battery to bellhousing, or on later model Jaguars (with battery in trunk) from battery to transfer case, this also cures a lot of other problems as well. We've never had to do a rear end on the same car again even those that have over 100,000 miles + since we did a replacement, and as always a good rebuilt rear-end such as the ones from British Parts International is aways a plus.

Positive ground depends upon proper and correct circuit function, i.e., the transmission of negative ions through the circuit by the retention of the visible spectral manifestation known as "smoke". Smoke is the crucial element that allows electrical circuits to work; we know this to be true because every time one lets the smoke out of the electrical system, it ceases to function.

This can be verified repeatedly through empirical testing. When, for example, the smoke escapes from an electrical component (i.e., say, a Lucas voltage regulator), it will be observed that the component stops working. The function of the wires and their associated harnesses is to transmit the ion charged smoke from one device to another; whenever the wire harness springs a leak, and lets all the smoke out of the system, nothing works afterwards. Very early on, the use of starter motors was frowned upon in British Automobiles. Largely because they consume large quantities of smoke, requiring very large wires.

It has been noted that Lucas components are possibly more prone to electrical leakage than Bosch or generic Japanese electrics. Leading experts point out that this is because Lucas is British and all things British leak. British engines leak oil, shock absorbers, hydraulic forks and disk brakes leak fluid, British tires leak air and the British defense establishment leaks secrets...so, naturally, British electrics leak smoke.
