Removing the self leveling suspension on an XJ6
All XJ6 Jaguars from 1990-1992 came with "hydraulic rear suspension". This system is prone to chronic leaks and failures and is best replaced with a standard coil spring and shock conversion kit (also offered by Black Dog as kit# KG9309.KIT shock conversion + JLM657 coil springs). Once the standard spring replacement kit is installed, there is no need for a "leaking "Y" pipe". Black Dog supplies all the parts to safely remove and blank off hydraulic pump, replace the "Y" pipe and seal the hydraulic fluid reservoir.

Here is the procedure for removing the Hydraulic Ride Level Hose and Pump with a Block-Off Kit from Black Dog Manufacturing.
  1. Drain hydraulic fluid reservoir. Be prepared to contain any residual fluid from hoses, valve body and pumps as you proceed.
  2. Remove and discard "Y" Hose.
  3. Remove and discard the Ride Level Low Pressure Return Hose from reservoir to Suspension Valve Block. Make note where this hose connected to the reservoir as you will be installing a plug on this port.
  4. Disconnect the Power Steering Return Hose from the reservoir making note of it's location for re-installation later on.
  5. Remove the reservoir. Thoroughly clean the reservoir port that was connected to the Ride Level Low Pressure Return Hose. Test fit and cut to appropriate length the supplied plug. Using a heat gun shrink onto the reservoir port.
  6. Re-install the reservoir and re-connect the Power Steering Return Hose to it's original port.
  7. Remove and discard the High pressure Hose from the Ride Level Pump to the Suspension Valve Block.
  8. Remove and discard the Ride Level Pump from the front of the engine and use the supplied Block-Off Plate to cover the hole. Your exisiting bolts may need to be cut down in length to secure the plate.
  9. Install the supplied Feed Hose on the Power Steering Pump and connect it to the reservoir port where the "Y" Hose was removed.
  10. Re-fill the reservoir with the appropriate amount of fluid and check all connections for leaks.

Jaguar Brake Caliper Black Dog Manufacturing offers a sensible hose kit to replace the high failure "Y" hose on the power steering low side. Requires that the standard spring and shock conversion has been done. Fits: XJ6 1990 - 1992

Not many people know that the manufacturer of Land Rovers attempted to market a computer. Why did they stop? ....The could not find a way to get it to leak oil!
I had to stop driving my car for a while... the tires were getting dizzy!
The best car safety device is a rear-view mirror....with a cop in it.
